Many people make the mistake of assuming that all drug and alcohol addiction programs are inpatient programs. In fact, even though inpatient treatment is certainly a popular form of care, outpatient detox and rehab is also a wonderful option for those who are struggling with addiction.
At Beaches Recovery, we offer an intensive outpatient program for those individuals who need to continue living at home while recovering from addiction. We also have an extended care outpatient program for those clients who have already completed their inpatient program and want to continue their care.
Inpatient treatment is different than outpatient treatment because, with the former, you live at the rehab facility throughout the duration of your program. You sleep, eat, and spend all your time on campus. Inpatient treatment takes you away from your home environment, negative influences, and temptations. It puts you in a completely drug-free environment and allows you to focus fully on your addiction recovery.
For many, inpatient treatment is absolutely necessary in order to fully recover from an addiction. It is arguably the most intensive form of drug addiction help, and it is highly successful.
On the other hand, another completely viable option to an inpatient drug addiction treatment center is outpatient treatment. Unlike inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment is much more flexible. It allows the client to continue living at home throughout the duration of the program.
For many individuals, this is simply a must. In fact, if outpatient treatment wasn’t an option, many individuals who have families, careers, or other responsibilities wouldn’t be able to attend treatment at all.
A good example is a student who is in high school or college. Missing 2 to 4 weeks of school completely may not be an option for a student even though they are struggling with a serious drug addiction. Outpatient treatment allows the student to get the treatment they need while still maintaining their place in school and other responsibilities at home.
In fact, Beaches Recovery offers a student addiction treatment program for just those reasons.
Generally speaking, when it comes to the frequency of care with outpatient treatment, the clients live at home and attend weekly or daily treatments at their rehab facility. Outpatient treatment can be more relaxed or intensive. For example, some clients may only need to attend outpatient treatment once every other day for a few hours each time. But outpatient treatment can also be intense.
In the case of an intensive outpatient program or IOP, clients would usually need to visit their rehab facility at least once a day for treatment and/or therapy. This form of treatment is more rigorous, and it’s meant to help someone from beginning to end–from outpatient detox to rehab, full recovery, maintenance, and aftercare.
Our extended care outpatient detox and rehab plan are meant for those clients who require additional care even after their 2- to 4-week inpatient program ends. We understand that it’s not easy to simply transition back into your normal routine after getting out of treatment, and this is especially true for young people. By choosing our extended care model of outpatient treatment, you can greatly increase your chances of maintaining sobriety and avoiding relapse after your inpatient program.
