As the Clinical Director for Beaches Recovery, Michael Connolly manages the clinical staff and creates Beaches’ comprehensive therapy curriculum. Because of Beaches’ individualized treatment plans, his work touches every client that comes through the door. Michael’s extensive experience in the treatment sector, especially in family systems, benefits Beaches clinicians, clients and their families.

Prior to Beaches, Michael was Director of Behavioral Services at a 120-bed treatment facility in Jacksonville, managing all clinical programs and staff. Previously, he honed his skill set working at the reputable Child Guidance Center, and for two local Employee Assistance companies where he provided both organizational and clinical services to numerous local and nationally top ranked companies. Michael has also maintained a small private practice since 2005 where he specializes in providing counseling and consulting for couples and families that are in need.

“I am thrilled to bring my leadership and counseling skills to Beaches Recovery,” says Michael. “My clinical perspective first views an individual within the family system. Then, I apply a variety of treatment modalities that provide clients with a foundation for lifelong recovery.”

Michael has his BS in Psychology and Sociology from Jacksonville University and was awarded an M.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling from University of North Florida. His training includes REBT, CBT, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, and Glasser’s Choice Theory.

Rick Titus, LMHC, CAP

After a successful career in insurance and sales, Rick went back to school for his Master’s and began working at a community mental health facility. Since then, he has never looked back. With 20 years in the recovery field, he has a wealth of experience and expertise, and continues to stay current through continuing education.

As a therapist at Beaches Recovery, Rick finds that clients respond to his use of humor in his approach to treatment. He also believes that the more clients understand about the illness of addiction, both the physical and emotional aspects, the better their chances at recovery.

Rick says one of the best things about Beaches Recovery is, “we introduce sober fun to people in recovery. We show them surfing, equine experiences, sports, movies, and more – all this within a community of people who are going through the same things. Learning how great it is to be sober, and helping them navigate the slippery situations they will encounter.”

Passionate about recovery, Rick is also active in the Jacksonville community. He presented a seminar entitled “When the 12 Steps are Not Enough,” about treating the whole person: emotional, relationship, physical and even employment. “That’s what we do at Beaches Recovery,” he states.

Rick has a B.A. from University of Florida and a M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Florida. He is also a Certified Addictions Professional.

He has been married for 28 years, and enjoys he enjoys movies, reading, sports and family time.

Jill Gray, MA, LMHC, EMDR

With almost ten years’ experience in addiction treatment, Jill has served as Trauma Therapist at Beaches Recovery since 2015. She conducts groups for men and women, as well as individual therapy.

Jill uses education about trauma and addiction to help clients in the recovery process. Through her groups, she provides clients with space to tell their story, gain empathy and trust. “It gives them a voice and speaks to their experiences,” says Jill.

With a certification in EMDR, Jill uses this modality when clients are stuck with trauma and PTSD symptoms. She is body mindful driven and is able to connect with clients beyond talk therapy.

“The thing that’s different about Beaches Recovery is that everyone here, from the technicians to the clinical director, truly care about what happens to clients when they leave. I love seeing our alumni come back to lead meetings at Beaches,” says Jill. “As you hear from many people at Beaches, it’s not a job. It’s a passion.”

Jill holds a B.A. from University of Florida at Jacksonville and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Argosy University in Tampa.

Originally from Clearwater, Florida, Jill is busy with her toddler and getting ready to have another baby soon. Conscious of her health and fitness, she enjoys exercise, yoga and weightlifting.

Ashley Harrold – LMHC

Ashley Harrold is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who is experienced in treating individuals struggling with chemical dependency and a wide variety of mental health diagnoses including depression, anxiety and grief. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient counseling settings as well as crisis management. Ashley has completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and implements these techniques into her therapy sessions.

Ashley strongly believes in treating addiction through a multi-faceted clinical approach that incorporates treatment of the individual and family. She utilizes a variety of techniques and modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy and solution focused therapy emphasizing rapport, honesty, consistency and compassion within her treatment. On a personal note, Ashley enjoys crafting, sports, her two dogs and spending time with family and close friends.

Ashley obtained her Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of South Florida and a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University.

Cassandra Hoffer, LMFT

Cassandra Hoffer is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, licensed in Florida. She was employed as an RN in the behavioral health field and worked in a variety of both inpatient and outpatient settings with adults, adolescents, and children challenged with mental health issues from 1989-2009. Since becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist, Cassandra has expanded her professional experience working with clients with emotional, chemical dependency, behavioral, and family difficulties.

Cassandra employs a number of therapeutic approaches when working with clients including Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and draws on her many years of behavioral health and wellness information when working with her clients. Married with two adult sons and a wonderful daughter in law, her family has been blessed with the addition of a new grandchild. After a lifetime of living in the north, Cassandra and her husband are happy to have relocated to sunny Florida and enjoy being outdoors and at the beach whenever possible.

Cassandra has a Bachelor’s degree from National Louis University in Applied Behavioral Science and has earned a Master’s Degree in Family Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University.

Cathy McLoone is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. After earning her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2009, Cathy McLoone went on to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in 2013.  Her work in behavioral health and substance abuse for adults began in 2007.

Since then, she has worked in private practice as well as inpatient and outpatient services.  Cathy utilizes a variety of techniques and modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing. Through these techniques, she emphasizes the need to meet the client “where they are” in terms of accepting that they have an addiction and what changes they are willing to make in order to address it. On a personal note, Cathy enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter.

Catherine earned a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University.

Christina Raninga is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida with experience working with clients who struggle with a wide variety of mental health diagnoses and chemical dependency.

Before joining the Beaches Recovery team, Christina provided mental health and addictions counseling services in various outpatient and inpatient settings, including working with the homeless population in the Jackson Beach area. Christina believes in using evidenced-based practices and interventions. On a personal note, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, working out, playing sports, practicing her faith, and is also a musician.

Christina D. Raninga earned both her Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and her Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Florida.

Ryan Terry is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with experience helping clients who are struggling with addiction, depression, anxiety, and identity development. He specializes in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) along with, family therapy.

Ryan enjoys working with clients from all backgrounds and cultures. A resident of the Jacksonville Beach community, in his free time, Ryan enjoys surfing, yoga, and time outdoors with his dog Mantis.

Ryan earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Central Florida and his Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Florida.

Sara is an admissions specialist at Beaches Recovery. She is one of the first people that you will encounter on your journey to recovery at Beaches. Dedicated to helping others change their lives through recovery and sober living, Sara is here to listen to your concerns and answer any questions that you may have concerning recovery at Beaches.

Her knowledge of the programs offered at Beaches ensures that each client who enters the program will have services that meet their individual need for medical, clinical, housing, and activities that will help them on their road to healing and a life full of hope.

Sara is CPR certified and enjoys learning new things and finding ways to contribute to her own personal growth as well as that of others. She also enjoys all things artistic. These include photography and tattoo artistry.

 

Adam Mayhew

Adam’s knowledge of the staff and services that Beaches offers ensures that each client who enters the program will have access to the clinical, medical, housing, and activities needed for their unique recovery journey.

Adam thoroughly enjoys working in the field of Substance Abuse and Mental Health and is dedicated to the betterment of each individual’s path to recovery. In his free time, Adam enjoys the active lifestyle Jacksonville Beach has to offer. This includes paddle boarding, outdoor running, and following the local rugby clubs.

 

Christopher D. Bailey, Ph.D., MA

Chris Bailey is the Director of Tides Edge at Beaches Recovery. He is a well-versed healthcare professional with more than 10 years of clinical experience. Chris has provided both mental health and substance abuse related services in an array of environments, to include outpatient, correctional, psychosocial rehabilitative, partial hospitalization, and inpatient settings. Chris also possesses considerable experience in strategic planning and organizational development.

“What makes Beaches special is that they meet people where they are and wrap services and holistic treatments around them. This creates an atmosphere that impacts and empowers people to become happy, healthy, and contributing members of society. What I enjoy most is seeing the transitions that people go through to get there.” Chris is an avid football fan who loves the Dallas Cowboys and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Chris earned his master’s degree in counseling psychology from Webster University, as well as a doctoral degree in management from the University of Phoenix.

As Director of Intake at Beaches Recovery, Michelle is responsible for assessing all incoming clients prior to entering treatment. Upon a client’s arrival, Michelle completes their admission process, which includes various clinical assessments utilized to create an individualized treatment plan specific to the client’s personal goals for recovery. Prior to her current role, Michelle was the Lead Therapist at Tides Edge Recovery, where she continues to oversee the clinical program.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of the awe-inspiring transformations that occur within a client when they obtain a life in sobriety,” says Michelle. “There’s a heart and pulse at Beaches Recovery; unlike any other program I have ever seen before. All of the staff are passionate about recovery and helping individuals gain and maintain sobriety – from those who receive the first call from a prospective client to the individuals who stay connected with the clients engaged in our alumni program.” Michelle adds, “The clients who come to our program feel that pulse and know they will be supported throughout their recovery process.”

Michelle holds a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from The College of Brockport, SUNY. She is currently a PhD candidate working on her doctoral degree in Addiction Psychology from Capella University.

A Los Angeles native, Michelle is an avid hockey fan and loves going to hockey games. In her spare time, she enjoys playing volleyball and spending time at the beach.

Spencer Finchem is a utilization review specialist with Beaches Recovery, LLC. After struggling with the powerful disease of addiction, Spencer has been in recovery and has been helping others maintain a sober and healthy lifestyle. He believes all clients can engage in a life of recovery with encouragement, support, and knowledge of the disease of addiction.

His motivation for working in this field is to help others positively change their lives, as others once helped him. In his free time, Spencer enjoys golf, running, and competitive online gaming.

Spencer Finchem earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Florida.

As Director of Operations, Lucious Jennings oversees the function and maintenance of all facilities, housing and equipment. He coordinates his activities between several departments to ensure the safety and comfort of all Beaches Recovery clients.

Lucious also ensures that Beaches Recovery facilities and operations support a high level of client care and is in compliance with The Joint Commission accreditation, as well as state and local ordinances.

Formerly a Case Manager at Beaches Recovery, Lucious is skilled at working with clients and easing their transition into treatment. He believes and embodies the philosophy that clients in treatment must be supported with care, love and positive guidance throughout their stay.

Lucious is a native of Jacksonville and has been at Beaches Recovery since 2015.

Sean Cochrane, B.A.

Sean Cochrane is the Director of Patient Services with Beaches Recovery. At Beaches, we understand that being in a new environment and meeting new people can be stressful. As the Director of Patient Services, Sean is among the first people that our clients meet upon arrival. He works with individuals to create their very own road map to recovery, introduces them to our highly qualified team of experts, and continues to work them with right through completion of their recovery program.

Sean began his career in mental health and addiction recovery working with inmates in correctional facilities in Montana. He continued his work in both inpatient and outpatient settings at mental health and addiction recovery centers before joining the Beaches team. Sean believes clients deserve all the support and care that we provide at Beaches Recovery. He also believes that providing guidance on a daily basis that is focused on helping a client become their best selves is key to helping our clients regain a life that is full of hope.

Sean earned a Bachelor of Arts from Florida State University.

Theressa Holton
Client Care Coordinator

Theressa has worked at Beaches Recovery almost since the first day it opened. While she now serves as Client Care Coordinator, Theressa has served in a variety of roles, including house manager, assistant director of facilities, facilities manager. She enjoys her work in the Client Care department because it provides her with opportunities to make positive impact on the clients. She is known for building strong relationships with the clients while they are at Beaches and also with keeping in contact and supporting clients as they transition into their new life of recovery. Theressa’s positive attitude, encouragement and continued support have impacted many lives.

In addition to working in admission, Theressa has also built the alumni program into a connected and active group. She is regularly in contact with past clients and encourages them to return and chair meetings at Beaches Recovery. She is also an active and contributing member of the Jacksonville recovery community and is often seen at community events. Once a month she goes camping with current clients and also accompanies them to meetings out in the community.

“I’m happy that clients can see me as another woman in recovery. They can look me in the eye and say, me too,” says Theressa.

Theressa is a Certified Smart Recovery Facilitator.

She was born and raised in Jacksonville, is an avid camper and sun worshiper.

Sharon Y. Thomas-Ray, B.S.

Sharon Thomas-Ray is a Lead Case Manager with Beaches Recovery. At Beaches, we understand that being in a new environment and meeting new people can be stressful. As a Lead Case Manager, Sharon is among the first people that our clients meet upon arrival. She works with individuals to create their very own road map to recovery, introduces them to our highly qualified team of experts and continues to work them with right through completion of their recovery program. Case managers often serve as a liaison between clients and families, as well.

Sharon has been working in the field of addictions since 2000. Her roles have included intake worker in both a treatment and methadone center setting as well as support staff in a detox center. Sharon also worked as a drug court counselor, conducting groups and preparing reports for the court.

Sharon states “There is such a heartwarming satisfaction that comes from watching an individual fully grasp the concept of recovery and living a new healthy lifestyle.” On a personal note, as a local to the area, Sharon enjoys taking full advantage of Florida’s beach life.

Sharon earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services with a concentration in Addiction Studies from Springfield College and a Medical Assistant Certificate from Concorde Vocational School of Medical Assisting.

 

Sara Deck

As a Case Manager at Beaches Recovery, Sara helps clients plan for discharge. She begins her work with clients almost from the first day they arrive at Beaches. Sara has worked in the treatment field for almost 5 years, beginning her career working at a halfway-house.

“Staying involved in the community is one way for clients to maintain their sobriety. I set them up with as many resources as possible, so that when they leave, clients have options. It also creates healthy habits,” says Sara.

Sara also researches sober living homes and finds medical providers for clients in their own community. She also sets them up with resources to assist with legal issues, insurance problems, disability – even employment concerns. She arranges appointments with a therapist, so that when clients discharge, they already have a therapist ready or have treatment prepared at an Intensive Outpatient Facility.

Sara is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in counseling at Florida State College of Jacksonville.

She was raised in Jacksonville, and is actively involved in the recovery community, and enjoys yoga and the beach.

Dr. Marcus De Carvalho is the Medical Director for Beaches Recovery. A board-certified physician and diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Inc., he possesses a wealth of knowledge in psychiatric and addiction medicine. Dr. De Carvalho is an expert in a number of disorders and diseases and is often consulted by local news outlets concerning issues of addiction and psychiatric health matters. Passionate about addiction medicine, he believes that every person deserves the opportunity to regain a life that allows them to become a functional member of society and to lead a happy, fulfilling life.

“Currently, there is an epidemic in our country which does not discriminate by age or class. Most people in America know someone who is afflicted by the disease of addiction. Immersion in the highest quality in therapeutic interventions gives clients the best chance of regaining sobriety and a fully functional life filled with hope for the future. Scott Cretul is the Outdoor Therapeutic Adventure Program Director at Beaches Recovery. He brings his enthusiasm for the outdoors combined with his dedication to the recovery field to this unique program. As a part Beaches’ holistic approach to healing, clients enjoy trips to the beach and wilderness for recreational activities including surfing, fishing, hiking, and camping. These unique opportunities offer new ways to have fun and explore a healthy and active lifestyle.

Scott’s goal is to get our clients to engage in new experiences and to find something they can become passionate about.  “Once they catch their first fish, they are truly excited and are immediately asking when they can come back and do it again.  Florida is one of the best locations in the world for fishing.  I love to teach our clients to surf and to stand up on a wave for their first time. In these moments, I catch glimpses of real smiles, that reflect true happiness and accomplishment. When I take a group out camping, it gives them a chance to connect with the wilderness.  There is a healing power in nature. I’m committed to helping our clients see the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle in mind, body, and spirit.” On a personal note, in his free time, Scott enjoys surfing, fishing, and water photography and is active in the recovery community.

Scott earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing from the University of North Florida.  He is a certified Wilderness First Responder and Clinical First Responder.  He holds American Red Cross certifications in CPR and Water Rescue.

Kyle is a Founder and the President of Beaches Recovery Services, LLC and Founder of Pinnacle Peak Recovery, LLC & Crestview Recovery Services, LLC. After losing someone close to their struggle with addiction, Kyle became passionate about helping others with the disease.  

His commitment to excellence in treatment, holistic care that heals the body, mind, and spirit, along with, the implementation of evidenced-based treatments earned him and his Beaches Recovery staff the coveted JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) accreditation within just one year of opening Beaches Recovery Services, LLC. 

Kyle has been working full-time in the rehabilitation treatment field since 2006. His previous work experience includes management positions at well-known treatment facilities in both Arizona and California.    

Kyle attended Centaur College in California, where he became a Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS). From there, he went on to become a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) with the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC).

John (Jay) Hanan is a co-founder of Beaches Recovery, LLC, Pinnacle Peak Recovery, LLC and Crestview Recovery Services, LLC. He has been active in the recovery field since 1988 and has served as Chairman of the Board of the National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence for the State of California (1991-1994).  

Prior to founding these organizations, John enjoyed a 35-year successful career in real estate development and management for multifamily and large commercial developments. Jay brings a combination of passion for the recovery field and considerable business experience to his role at Beaches Recovery.   

John describes helping others to recover from alcohol and drug abuse and the associated underlying behavioral issues as “by far the most gratifying time in my career.” During his free time, Jay enjoys spending time with his wife and family.  He also enjoys traveling, reading, and engaging in fitness activities.

John is a graduate of the University of North Carolina (Moorehead Scholar) and the University of Chicago School of Business where he received his Masters of Business Administration.

Dylan Smith, BS

Dylan Smith is the Chief Executive Officer at Beaches Recovery, LLC. Dylan’s passion for his work at Beaches stems from his desire to see men and women of all ages transition from a life of substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues to long-term recovery and happiness in sobriety. His firsthand understanding of the damaging effects of drug and alcohol addiction has further fueled his commitment to this work.

Before beginning his career in recovery, Dylan held multiple management positions in the golf industry. These included managing operations for entire golf clubs and coordinating hundreds of golf tournaments. He has also taught golf to players of all levels.

Dylan obtained a degree in Professional Golf (Business) Management from Arizona State University.

Hallie Marcotte is the Chief Operating Officer for Beaches Recovery, LLC. She is involved in all aspects of the business as it continues to grow and become recognized as a leader in the field of addiction treatment. Hallie joined Beaches after retiring from a career as an administrator in the field of special education for one of the largest school districts in the country. Her work at Beaches Recovery allows her to combine her expertise in organizational management with her passion for helping others.

“In these times when substance abuse is fast becoming the number one public health challenge that affects individuals, families and communities on every level, I am proud to be associated with an organization whose sensitive, highly skilled staff, and progressive, evidence-based programs are transforming the lives of our clients and families afflicted with this potentially devastating disease. What I enjoy most about my job, is the opportunity to share with others, the life-saving work that Beaches is doing in the field of addiction recovery. Hallie obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education, from Southwest Texas State University, as well as a Master of Arts, in Special Education from the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque.

Patricia Yost, BS

Patricia Yost is the Executive Director at Beaches Recovery, LLC.  Her extensive experience includes Director of Operations at Beaches Recovery, sober living house management and client services. Patricia has been with Beaches since it’s inception and uses her exceptional organization, planning, and people skills to oversee all aspects of operations at Beaches.    

“The thing I love about working here is watching the changes in our clients as they grow in sobriety,” said Patricia. She also finds joy in working with the variety of dedicated  staff and others who come together on behalf of our clients. Ms. Yost is an invaluable asset to our Beaches Team of remarkable talent.

Patricia earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders (Speech Pathology & Audiology) with an undeclared minor in Psychology. She has continued graduate studies in this area and still enjoys Seminole Football.
