Doctors prescribe Adderall to treat patients with attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), narcolepsy and other conditions. But among college students, Adderall has gained a reputation for being a pathway to better studying for longer periods and greater focus when cramming for exams. In fact, students typically call Adderall the “study drug.” Because of its misleading reputation among youth, more and more students need Adderall addiction treatment.
Other uses of Adderall by collegians include using it to stay awake during all-night drinking binges and partying. Most students who abuse Adderall obtain it from a prescribed friend or from a network of peers who also use the drug, having gained it from illegal sources.
Doctors originally prescribed Adderall to individuals for mental illnesses or sleep disorders. But college students tend to be fearless in abusing the drug. Few believe they can become addicted to the medication, a belief which is entirely false.
If you believe someone you love is abusing Adderall, you may recognize these signs of addiction:
You may also notice that your loved one is changing how they act or socialize, including:
If your relative is suffering with Adderall addiction, they will experience withdrawal symptoms during periods of not using the drug. These withdrawal symptoms may include:
To overcome addiction, patients need to enter Adderall addiction treatment. The first step into rehab is a medically supervised detox at our partner facility. Through detox, patients work through physical dependence safely, with medication for uncomfortable symptoms administered by licensed medical personnel.
Following detox, patients who have abused Adderall or any other substance must go through a quality, comprehensive rehab program. Only through rehab can addiction be effectively overcome with hope for prevention of relapse. Without rehab, addiction will become progressively worse and may lead to fatal consequences. Continued addiction can also lead to crossover addiction to other drugs.
There are a wide variety of rehab programs available, with some being particularly suited for college students. Adderall addiction can be treated on an inpatient or residential basis during a break from school. Or students with less severe addiction can continue their studies while going through outpatient or intensive outpatient treatment.
The college student in your life may be aware that they need help for addiction to drugs or alcohol. Or they may be in denial, altogether. Regardless of whether getting help is their own decision or influenced by others, studies have proven even involuntary treatment can lead to lifelong sobriety. For your college student to have the bright future they deserve, addiction treatment is very important.
When you or someone love are ready to overcome addiction to Adderall or other substances, call Beaches Recovery at 8666050532. Now is the best time to end the addiction.
