• Outpatient: The patient reports to the outpatient facility for appointments with a counselor and clinicians. This option is available for patients who have to attend outside responsibilities (work, school, childcare) but can follow the rules.
• Intensive outpatient program: Same as above, except in IOPs, the patients will typically spend many hours a day/week in intensive therapy (both individual and group). This kind of program is designed for individuals with more mild addictions or those who have already completed a program and need support to get back on track after a relapse (a natural and expected part of managing the chronic disease that is an addiction).
• Inpatient drug rehab program: Residential program that runs 30-90 days. The patient lives on-site with restrictions and a full schedule of treatment programs. Recreation and exercise amenities are usually available.
• Inpatient Extended Care: Same as above, but with a duration of over 90 days. Clinicians prescribe this type of care for severe addictions with health concerns.
• Aftercare Programs: There are a variety of aftercare programs available. The two most common forms of aftercare include sober living and alumni programs. Sober living is a transitional program where individuals live in a community house as they slowly re-integrate back into their everyday life. An alumni program is a way to build, maintain, and contribute to a supportive community as a resource to maintain sobriety.
